Co-Writing with Yelena Casale & Tina Moss - Platte River
Co-writing can be a tempting idea for both newbie and seasoned writers. The reasons are wide and varied – from dipping one’s toes into the writing world with a partner by their side, to putting two great minds together to see what may come of it, to just exploring a different facet of the writing experience. Yet, how does one know if co-writing will work for them? How do they find the right partner for collaboration? What is the process for co-writing? This workshop will explore all phases of writing with a partner, from the inception of the idea to the steps to make it a fluid and seamless process. It will look at various methods that writers can adopt for themselves, as no one method works for all. It’ll take an intimate look at the art of co-writing, as well as the business aspects, such as promotion and the sharing of royalties. When two writers find their way to collaboration, they can often produce high-quality fiction faster, generate more great ideas, and develop wonderful close relationships.

University- Beat Sheet Writing with Bethany Burke of Blushing Books - Platte River
Plotter or pantser? Rigid outline or seat of the pants? There IS a "middle road": the beat sheet. Virtually all fiction - whether screenplays or novels - hits certain story beats at certain intervals in the story. Based on the traditional three-act structure, these turning points (or beats) are the building blocks of your story. Hit them, and your story “works.” Miss them, and your story will not feel right to the readers, even if the reasons are unclear. This workshop presents these beats using an easy to follow, interactive spreadsheet, which allows authors to gauge their beats based on story length, and define each beat with just one or two sentences.
